Newhouse Shelter is more than just a safe haven – it’s a transformative ecosystem of hope and healing for survivors of domestic violence. Their mission is to shatter the barriers that feed the cycle of abuse while partnering with survivors to achieve safety, self-sufficiency, and whole-person healing.
Through survivor-centric innovation and zealous collaboration with community partners, Newhouse creates a space where every person is valued, heard, and empowered to reclaim their autonomy. They recognize that domestic violence knows no boundaries – racial, cultural, socioeconomic, gender, age, or otherwise – and provides inclusive, excellence-driven services to all who need them.
A Fundraising Event for Newhouse Shelter
When I heard about the opportunity to be a guest bartender at the Worthy Pop-up Bar benefiting Newhouse Shelter, I knew I had to participate. This unique event does more than just serve drinks – it serves hope, dignity, and transformation for survivors of domestic violence.
The concept behind the Worthy Pop-up Bar deeply resonates with me: everyone deserves healthy relationships, self-care, and empowerment.
As a guest bartender, I get to be part of creating a welcoming space where this message comes alive. Whether I’m mixing a crafted cocktail or serving a thoughtful mocktail, each drink represents a contribution to essential services that Newhouse provides – from therapy sessions and childcare to transportation and legal support.
What makes this volunteer opportunity special is its blend of meaningful impact and community celebration. The event transforms The Maverick in the Crossroads into more than just a bar – it becomes a testament to courage and resilience. Every ticket sold helps provide basic necessities like clothing and hygiene products, ensures children have bedtime snacks, and supports survivors as they rebuild their lives.
The Impact We Can Make Together
Last year, the Worthy Pop-up Bar raised an incredible $209,000 for Newhouse Shelter. This year, we’re aiming even higher with a goal of $250,000!
My fellow guest bartender Derrick Miller and I have committed to raising $30,000 of that total, and we’ll be behind the bar on March 1st from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Every ticket purchase – whether it’s a $50 General Admission or $100 VIP ticket – goes directly toward this goal and helps provide critical services to survivors.
I’m particularly grateful to Searcy Financial Services and Allos Investment Advisors for their generous $2,500 sponsorships of this event. Their support demonstrates how businesses can make a meaningful impact in our community and help create positive change.
I believe in the power of community to create change, and the Worthy Pop-up Bar embodies this perfectly. Join us on February 28th and March 1st, 2025, from 4-10 pm, and be part of something truly worthy. Together, we can raise our glasses to support those who have shown incredible strength in their journey to safety and healing.
