Getting Better All the Time - Celebrating 40 Years in Business

As we near the end of our 40th year in business, we wanted to leave you with this open letter. We sent this letter to our clients at the beginning of our anniversary year, and wanted to recap the year by sharing it with you as a thank you for helping us celebrate and continue to impact the lives of those around us.

Dear Friends,

Over the years, we have met with you at kitchen tables, living rooms, and multiple offices across the country as you have shared successes, failures, joys and sorrows with us. More recently, we have also connected via conference calls, FaceTime and computer screen-share video meetings. My, how things have evolved over the 40 years Searcy Financial has been in business! We couldn’t have grown into the company we are today without your faith in our ability to listen, problem-solve and provide sound advice for each of your unique situations. We enjoy every opportunity we get to stand where you stand, learn about your lives, and help you plan to make a difference. We do not take our relationships for granted and we never stop striving to improve in order to honor our commitment to you and your families. Our future is dedicated to you…

Building Your Team

SearcyFinancial1138Back in 1976, Searcy Financial was created as a one-man shop with Mike Searcy at the helm. As we have built our team, we found that hiring for attitude and talent rather than specific skills helped strengthen who we are. We knew that once you get people on board that have the right attitude, motivation, passion and aptitude, they can learn what they need to learn. That’s why today you will see a team with backgrounds in communication, economics, politics and international relations working together to deliver nationally recognized wealth management services. We didn’t all start out as “financial planners” but we put in the work, we earned our credentials, we were mentored, and we read/researched to become the team we are today.

While there are many skills and attributes that our team members share, each person also has talents and gifts that are uniquely theirs, creating a diverse team. These different strengths allow us to challenge each other, to question ideas and see them from different viewpoints, and to stretch what this company is into more of what it can become. Why? Because our end goal always comes back to you, our clients, and we don’t rest on our laurels when it comes to meeting your needs.

Knowing who we are and who fits best on our team has led to low staff turnover, and increase in tenure has led to greater levels of knowledge, staff being better trained, and having more familiarity with each of our clients and their specific goals and objectives.

The Benefits of Stretching

Notice above we mentioned how the unique skills each of us bring to the team means we ask each other to stretch a little when considering new ideas and crystalizing what this company really stands for. This stretching is something we do in our personal lives as well, and have found that asking our clients to stretch a bit themselves can produce some life-changing results.

Knowing where we stand gives us greater confidence in meeting you where you stand. Each member of our team has worked to crystalize our own vision/purpose for our life, the motivating factors that drive us to be who we are, independent of anything or anyone else. This is how we approach financial planning with our clients. I’m sure at times you may have thought, “Wow, they’re pretty touchy-feely for a financial firm.” Yes! This is our gentle way of stretching you. We want to be sure that the plans we help each of you develop truly point you in the direction of your vision for your life, so this is an important step in how we help others. If you have not clearly laid out your vision with our team or you feel it may have changed along the way, let us know. We would be happy to walk with you through this process so that you have a very clear direction for where you’re going and why you make the decisions you do.

Continuing What We’ve Built

SearcyFinancial1119Our firm wouldn’t be what it is today without our commitment to continuing it for generations to come. The succession plan we have developed helps ensure that our clients will not experience an interruption as team members near retirement. We are continually growing and adding new generations to our team so we are positioned for a bright future. In 2010, Marc Shaffer was announced as partner. Mike and Marc have spent the past 10 years as associates and 6 years as partners working to enhance the Searcy Financial offerings and to deliver the best experience to clients. They soon realized there was another team member who shared their passion for building our company and recently announced John Fales as a partner in our firm.

Commitment to Improving

We are proud to announce that we have been accepted as a member by The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) and are now recognized as a Fee-Only firm. The move to fee-only was intended to eliminate any perceived conflicts of interest and give our clients full transparency and confidence in our team. We also continue to expand our learning and processes by utilizing new technology and pursuing additional formal education and credentialing; recently, John earned his Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA®) designation and Brenda earned the Accredited Portfolio Management Advisor℠ (APMA℠) designation. Jessica continues to expand our retirement plan offerings and has added the Certified 401(k) Professional (C(k)P®) and the Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor (CPFA) to her credentials. Other team members are currently in the process of expanding their education and credentials in order to continue increasing their own capabilities and those of the team.

Making Time to Serve the Community

From participating in educational opportunities to philanthropy projects, we maintain an active presence in our communities, serving those around us. We have had the opportunity to serve with many organizations that have both local and international impact - feeding the hungry, serving those with disabilities, raising money for disease research, delivering medical aid across the world, and more. We look forward to more projects that will allow us to make an impact on the world around us.

Today, we are not the same firm that we were five or ten years ago and we don’t expect that we will be the same firm in another five or ten years from now. We are deeply committed to protecting your interests and your well-being, meeting the highest standards of care and being transparent in everything we do. We cannot adequately express our thanks to you for partnering with us throughout the first 40 years and we look forward to growing with you in the future.
